Posts: 33 Oct 13 06 4:38 PM	Looks like the message that had the rest of my information got deleted instead of this truncated one I am in Fairbanks, Alaska and the Blues scene-- as far as I can tell-- is non-existent. The only scene that rivals it in a fight for complete irrelevance is the jazz scene! I'm a pretty new listener, really... I'd heard a lot without knowing what most of it was except for some Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. My current infatuation is pre-war delta blues... particularly Mance Lipscomb, Leadbelly, and Blind Lemon Jefferson. I'd love to hear any recommendations you all might have as far as reading about the history of the blues, listening guides, etc...

Deepest Blue Posts: 2453 Oct 13 06 5:07 PM	YER FROM SQUAREBANKS! Welcome aboard! Another ALASKAN! Finally, I was getting a little tired of being the only one! The Alaskan Blues Scene has really taken a hit, quite a few players have left (Jake Matson, Paul Byrd, Me, Robert Tyler, Gary Sloan) and quite a few have passed (Louisianna George, James Pruitt for example). Its still there if you know where to look- like the Raines Brothers, from right there in Fairbanks. Those guys are both world-class. But still, I agree, with clubs closing and more folks staying home it's hard to find the music (and even harder to make a living at it). Really, welcome to the forum, there's lots of info here and some really helpful people. And when you see Lindy Raines, my all-time favorite guitar player from right there in Fairbanks, please tell him that Son Henry said hello. My favorite Alaska musicians are both bass players-- an old schoolmate, John Keech, and Scott Kiefer, currently living and recording in Anchortown... I'm sure I'll be haunting the pre-war blues boards when I know enough to ask an intelligent question or make a sensical comment

I know some of the northern stations subscribe to it, so you may luck out. Also, you likely are able to get CBC radio -- Saturday nights there is a blues show called Saturday Night Blues, the announcer is Holger Peterson. I love that program.
