Que onda mis estimados bluesmen
How you doing my fellow blues aficionados
Well It's indeed a pleasure to share a post with so many people who share the same devotion, impressive how you've build a respectably large community, since Blues is not much graced with mass media appeal and exposure nowadays, I must say that this proves the general good health of the genre, wich is great because people should never forget seminal music (can you think of a more fertile music genre than Blues music?), not only because of its historical preeminence, but for it rocks! Blues music it's the most passionate sort of music I know
Anyway, I'm from Mexico City and I got first hooked by Blues on my early twenties, I'm 25 now, before that I used to listen to comercial music and some classic rock (stones most notably) but they failed in inspiring me anything apart from passive listening, following those root I reached Blues music and... can't quite explain it, but it awakened in my a musical interest and sensitivitie I never dreamed I possessed.
I've learned to play to play Blues Harp pretty decently and I've been trying to put together a band with not much succes, because the scene in Mexico you'll see, it's not the best, of course there are some clubs wich feature it and some micro festivals but what we really need here is a revalorization of the genre... When you say "Blues music" here in Mexico City most people think of it as some bohemian, boring old music, something very intellectual, unaccessible for the common, and the only people consagrated to the execution of such rarity are senior ex-classic-rock-style-bands performers...
The style I love the most is dirty electric chicago blues and my favourite artists are LittleWalter, Sonny Boy II, Howlin' Wolf, The Butterfield BB, Elmore James, Freddie King, Magic Sam, Mike Bloomfield...
Saludos
