These Blue Horizon jobbies are great -- I bought the Duster Bennett and the Champion Jack Dupree sets so far and wasn't disappointed. Why have they let them lie for so long? Jack Dupree was hacked off at the time because they never paid him, hope Otis got a better deal but I suspect not

It's about time that these recordings from Otis Spann became more readily available from Blue Horizon. This is superb material!! Some of the best Otis ever did.

Hi there !

Well the album - "Biggest Thing Since Collossus" has been out for a number of years. It seems to have had 2 different front covers - one with Otis with a bicicle (racer) and the other is a bizarre one of a spider on a dark red background !

Good stuff but I always think Peter Green is too loud in the mix, Otis' piano is too low in the mix. Who's effin' album is it anyway ?? !!!

Apparently, Mike Vernon was a big Greeny fan - it shows in the unfair "mix" (in my opinion).

A good track is "Temperature is Risin' ".

There were two takes recorded - one take is one the album, and the other take, which I think is the better take, is on the 45 single release - much rarer. I have the 45 single (Blue Horizon label). I think that Otis sings and plays better on the 45 version but Green's guitar is better on the album take. (That's how I remember it, anyway !!). "Walkin'" is on the other side of the 45 (same as the album version).

Would be great if the 45 single version was released in this package too - plus any other stuff not yet released. Would be even better if it was all remixed too !!!!

I got the CD last week and love it. From what I can see, all tracks with Peter Green have been remixed and it certainly doesn't sound like he's too loud in the mix now. Great music.

Even if you have all previous issues/reissues, the unissued tracks, the remixes and the sleeve notes/photos mean I'd recommend getting this. And it's at a bargain price.

Picked it up at the weekend, great collection, interesting to hear some of the false starts, some of the takes are not the previously released versions and it has been remastered quite well. Peter Green doesn't sound too loud but I was surprised by how 'predictable' his playing was on this material. Fortunately I bought it for Spann not Green

I disagree!

It is a great track!

I love to play that one and the Muddy-otis "Black Night" from the Muddy box set back to back. I love Otis...I have Colossus (love it) and I will look for this one also. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi again !

Just bought the Blue Horizon boxed set on sunday (yesterday).
Not yet listened to more than the first 3 tracks - just not had time.

I'm glad to see it has been remixed !!

The 2nd track seemed to have Big Walter Horton in not good form - kind of "whining" in the background. I'm looking forward to getting the rest though.

I also bought the Blue Horizon Bukka White set - also not had a chance to listen to.
