Since I first visited your site the other day, I've been wandering around... posting here and there, so I guess it's about time I introduced myself.
(also, because a few of you kind folks took the time out to visit a friends' site I mentioned (read: shameless plug))

Hello everyone!!

My name is Louise (a fine old blues name...) and I am a native Californian.
No blonde hair or blue eyes, don't surf - can barely swim!
Don't play any instruments, but I do dabble in a bit of B+W photography,
mostly of musicians who are friends of mine.

I was weaned mainly on the British Blues bands of the 60's (and people like Frank Zappa, who lived close by). Growing up in Southern California, and being a teenager in the 60's, was an experience I wouldn't trade for the world!! I was witness to some of the best music of our time, and therefore, I have come to appreciate all types of music, while keeping a soft spot in my heart for The Blues.

This forum seems to have a really great collection of Blues people from all over the world, with a wealth of knowledge to explore, and I have barely begun to scratch the surface.

So, enuff about me. . . I'm off to see the Wizard!!

Welcome Louise. As you've seen, we have a pretty good bunch of posters on this forum. Feel free to participate when you can. We like to encourage that sort of thing around here. Glad to have another member from the Los Angeles area joining us.

Hit Hollywood California at the ripe age of 6 in 1948. My family relocated there from England. Must have been born with blues in my blood because from age 12 I couldn't get enough. Left CA in 1983 for the rural life I so missed. Spent time in Redondo Beach hanging around the Lighthouse around '64 or '65. Wonder if it's still there? Know what you mean about the 60's. Good, good, memories.

Hey there, Bumpy!

Wow! In '64 or '65 I was still playing with Barbie dolls!! (tee-hee)
But seroiusly, I lived in Hermosa Beach (where the Lighthouse is/was) since '79 and have been in So. Redondo for about 2 yrs. now, but I was "hanging out" there from about "66-67 or so. . .

It is still there, but in name only.
'The Lighthouse' had been sold (and changed for the worse, sadly) quite a few years before you had even left the state. The new owner of the Lighthouse, Paul Hennessey, owned (and still does I believe) about 4-5 other 'pub' type clubs around SoCal, including one already in Hermosa, some of which may/may not have had some sort of accoustic entertaiment, depending on the location. He might have known how to run a bar, but not a 'music venue'. They had a pretty good booking agent there for a while (I think his name was 'Kenny'), who might not have gotten the caliber of acts the place was known for, but he got a lot of the hot local talent. The late George 'Harmonica' Smith comes to mind...
Since then, it has become just another bar with a dance band.
Even the old sign on the building was neglected to the point that the city had them remove it before it fell down on it's own (or on someone's head).

The once quiet little beach town, with an almost bohemian feel, has now become "party central" for the college age crowd (or am I just getting old?).
The only redeeming factor is that it gave birth to the 'Cafe Boogaloo', one of the hottest little blues clubs around!!

Ah, yes. . . but that's a story for another day.

Welcome from another ex-Californian. I was born in Lynwood, lived mostly in Santa Barbara, with stops in Downey, Lakewood, and Ventura. Left it all behind when I was dragged, kicking and screaming, to Utah when I was 14. Been here ever since.

Ain't no way in the world I'm goin' out that front door...
