Tonite's final episode of the TV show "West Wing" (which I never watch, but my wife wanted to see it) featured a lovely performance of America The Beautiful by Keb Mo, playing what appeared to be a National steel guitar (or some facsimile thereof)

The setting for his performance was the swearing-in ceremony of the new President who was replacing Martin Sheen.

The show was agonizingly stupid Hollywood drivel, but Keb Mo's performance was quite lovely.

I never watched the show, but my impression is that it was universally praised by critics. I was considering getting into it on DVD (I don't know if it's on DVD yet, but it will be).

I've never seen the show but friends who have seen it, swear by it.
The scene you described is so "light-weight" Hollywood style it's pathetic. That's one reason I don't watch that stuff. It insults my brain.
But now that you've brought it up, my wish would be to see Shrub, Cheney & the rest frog-marched off in chains for Leavenworth Prison to the tune of "Before You Accuse Me" (just for starters)
That would be a dream I will probably never see.
And that's not political. That's tragic.

With Albert King, Albert Collins & Freddie King back from the dead with angel wings and an attitude, hovering above, shooting lightning licks in a mighty storm. Blasting Britney Spears and Karaoke until all the false ones got their cummuppence or own channel. They could call it Bad Day at West Wing or whatever.

I would turn the tv on for THAT!

Personally, I am vehemently opposed to seeing Bush or Cheney charged with any crime. Now, don't get me wrong: I still want them to go to prison. I just want it to be a secret prison at which they are held indefinitely without being charged with any offense.

Is BBF a political forum or not?

If it isn't, why do we continue to see people ignore Blindman's rules regarding political posts?

My original post in this thread has _zero_ political content, and sought to mention Keb Mo's lovely blues-tinged performance of America The Beautiful. That a network television show would use a blues performer in such a prominent way, even on your typically mind-numbing Hollywood drama, was a bright spot for the blues and blues performers. Not one person took the time to comment about Keb Mo, or his performance, or the rare spotlight one of our own received on national television.

Instead, this thread has been hijacked by people who want to make political statements about President Bush and Vice President Cheney. There is a time and a place for that. I thought it was pretty clear that this ain't the place.

(And sethr, West Wing is no longer universally critically praised. Such praise ended years ago when Aaron Sorkin stopped writing and producing it, and the show became a parody of itself. But this sort of thing happens all the time in Hollywood and network TV land.)

as for the critical praise of the west wing, you're dead wrong. the general consensus among respected critics is that the west wing made a strong rebound over the last season and a half. personally, i thought the show was anything but "agonizingly stupid Hollywood drivel." but then, what do i know: i'm not a merciless, cold conservative. whoops. there i go again.

Mr. Konkel, you don't know me at all. Conservative? on some things sure, and I'm "liberal" on others. I'm not especially convinced it's relevant within the contexts of this Forum about blues what I am.

Cold? Merciless? How on earth could you possibly know whether I possess those traits or not?

I'm unclear why my very straight-forward post on Keb Mo on national television needs to turn into a personal attack on me, or a political comment about anyone like Bush, Cheney or any other politican in any country.

At minimum, though I'm still waiting for someone to comment about Keb Mo's appearance on national TV last nite, which I thought was pretty interesting and entertaining. But apparently waiting for someone to comment on that is rather akin to Waiting for Godot.

in general i agree that politics should be kept from this forum . . . and i apologize to blindman.

Television, is television. Fiction is fiction. And sometimes it does hurt to see fiction intersect with fact.

All I would have to comment is make sure you have good access to credible journalism and leave the tv dramas to the screen writers.

And vote with your conscience.

Ann- do I detect a hint of doubt? The Daily Show is probably the smartest "news show" on air. It's too bad that in order to get the truth in this world, we have to get our news from a comedy show. It's true, though.

I'm not a big TV guy (prefer spending time on the guitar and outdoors), but it IS one of the rare shows I record on my DVR (kinda Tivo)... Got to see them all !
