Jackie Gleason used to have a routine in which he "played" the trumpet -- but actuality, a legitimate jazz trumpet player was actually behind the curtain providing the music. Gleason was just pantomiming.

Who was this trumpet player?

What a "hackett" indeed !

Well, gents, which animal was given as a nickname for a jazz guitarist because he was reputed to have good sized hands.
Easy one !
I will be away and not connected until Monday evening (French time, I let you calculate...

Okay, here's an easy one to keep this moving... I had an impostor in LA but spent pretty much my whole life around Houston till I died maybe ten years ago. (As an aside, my band with Clarence Hollimon on guitar was about the first to let Johnny and Edgar Winter sit in.) I played on a lot of Amos Milburn's best records (one was even named after me) before I joined Ray Charles' band and played the solos on "Hallelujah I Love Her So" and "I Got A Woman." But I don't even think I got a mention in the movie "Ray" and I hardly ever got a taste of Ray's band reunions, even though I played for him once in awhile at least into the '80s. Although many blues fans sort of lost track of my career at that point, I cut an album for Riverside and three for Blue Note, including some smoking blues. So who was/am I?

That was a good one anyway, it's true this guy is way under documented.

Among Wilkerson's jazz albums, I don't think that the Blue Notes do him justice, although the Riverside album is VERY nice.
